A number of funding opportunities are currently available for PhD students at Iscte – University Institute of Lisbon for the 2026/2027 academic year.

As part of the PIONEER Alliance, applications are now open for the Pioneer Research Fellowships, funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), with a deadline of 24 June 2026. These grants are intended for candidates wishing to conduct research at the Centre for International Studies (CEI-Iscte) in fields such as International Studies, International Relations, African Studies, History and Social Sciences.

Update [06/07/2026]: We regret to inform that, due to budgetary and financial management considerations, the call for applications for the Iscte Doctoral (Third Cycle) Merit Scholarships has been cancelled. This decision was approved by the Iscte Management Council last Friday, 3 July. Only the call for applications relating to Tuition Fee Scholarships will continue as planned.

These scholarships are offered by Iscte and are aimed at postgraduate students, with a view to supporting their academic careers.
