The 2026 edition of Iscte Open Day, held on April 8, 2026, featured three science communication activities organized by CEI-Iscte, providing opportunities for researchers and high school students to come together in an atmosphere of knowledge sharing, critical reflection, and discovery.

Led by Ana Mónica Fonseca and Rita Marcelino dos Santos, this activity focused on Portugal’s accession to the EEC, demonstrating how historians conduct their research through the analysis and interpretation of historical sources.

United Nations General Assembly Simulation
Led by Pedro Seabra, this activity invited participants to take on the role of diplomatic representatives, discussing international issues and experiencing firsthand how one of the world’s leading multilateral forums operates.

Do as I say, not as I do: an assessment of corruption in Portugal
Led by Inês Ascenso, this activity encouraged reflection on perceptions and practices related to corruption in Portugal, fostering critical discussion about transparency, ethics, and trust in institutions.

CEI’s participation in initiatives such as Open Day underscores the importance of bringing scientific research closer to society by fostering dialogue between academia and the public. By participating in activities of this kind, we help make knowledge more accessible, encourage critical thinking, and spark interest in key contemporary issues. These efforts also reflect the center’s commitment to promoting science, fostering more informed citizens, and building a university that is open to the community.
