This Policy Hack – 2nd edition – is part of the final phase of the European ECOPRISE project (February 2023 – January 2027), which created the innovative, regenerative, and entrepreneurial Ecoprise model through a consortium of experts, and also an Ecoprise MOOC that trained around 40 Ecoprise Designers in Portugal and 250 across Europe.
The activity stems from the concept of a “Temporary Regenerative Zone” – a proposal for reflection and collaborative prototyping inspired by initiatives of urban regeneration currently being debated in Lisbon. It will be an experimental session in mode of policy hacking dedicated to the theme of territorial regeneration and the activation of degraded spaces through territorial development and local governance, the meeting aims to bring together perspectives on local development, sustainability, urban planning, and civic innovation in an interactive and multidisciplinary format.
This Policy Hack is an interactive co-design process created to connect the outputs of incubation and application of the Ecoprise model, analyzing real and local political, environmental, social, cultural, and/or economic challenges in a disused or abandoned territorial area. The goal is to create an emergent interactive session where policy experts, entrepreneurs, Ecoprise Designers, local development agents, and professionals with knowledge of community and participatory processes can jointly analyze a disused site in order to contribute a tangible solution for its systemic regeneration and a new way of thinking about the physical, ecological, social, and cultural territory, including public policy issues. A multi-tool and systemic methodology will be tested in practice with the integration of the Ecoprise model, Site Design Permaculture and its ethics/principles, Ecovillage Design (EDE), among others.
Also featured will be the seven central and interconnected dimensions of the Ecoprise model (culture, purpose, regeneration, ownership and governance, networks, impact and replicability), as well as its ecosystem approach around the four dimensions of sustainability and regeneration: Ecology, Economy, Social and Culture.

In practice, we will co-design a robust local case study that demonstrates how an identified place could be better utilized and valued from the perspective of Ecoprise principles: a regenerative entrepreneurial activity that generates viable livelihoods while restoring ecological systems, strengthening community resilience, and promoting the circulation of value locally.
