The 11th European Conference on African Studies (ECAS 2027) will take place at Iscte in Lisbon from 30 June to 3 July 2027, with Centre for International Studies from Iscte – University Institute of Lisbon (CEI-Iscte) acting as the local organiser.

The call for papers is now open for this event, under the theme ‘African Prisms’. The conference provides an opportunity for the academic community to present and discuss research in the field of African Studies through the panels and sessions included in the scientific programme.

Researchers interested in participating should first consult the conference theme, the submission guidelines and the list of panels available on the event’s official website.

How to submit a proposal

All proposals must be submitted via the online forms available on the pages for the respective sessions, accessible from the programme page. Proposals sent by email will not be accepted.

During the submission process, you must identify at least one author as the presenter and specify the participation status of the other authors, indicating whether they will also present the paper, whether they will attend the conference without presenting, or whether they will not be attending.

The list of panels also includes round-table discussions. Some are open to contributions in the form of short presentations, rather than paper abstracts. The conditions for participation must be confirmed on each session’s page.

Submission deadline

The deadline for submitting proposals is 4 January 2027, at 23:59 (Lisbon time).

We recommend that you check the conference’s official website regularly for further information, important dates and any updates.
