CEI-Iscte researcher, Luís Bernardino, has recently published, in co-authorship with Ana Carina Santos Franco (NOVA University Lisbon), the article “The contribution of the European Union’s Common Security and Defence Policy to a peace enforcement partnership in Mozambique” in the journal South African Journal of International Affairs, coordinated by the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA).

The article focuses on the European Union (EU) Common Security and Defence Policy military mission in Mozambique, with a particular emphasis on the training mission. The authors analyse the context, origins, evolution and impact of this mission, including the diplomatic process that led to its creation in 2021, and highlight Portugal’s role in promoting it. The study also assesses the effectiveness of EU support to the Mozambican Armed Forces in combating the armed conflict in Cabo Delgado province and discusses the feasibility of a peace enforcement partnership with other international partners.
