The 10th European Congress of African Studies (ECAS) took place between 25 and 28 June in Prague, bringing together hundreds of researchers from all over the world dedicated to African studies. Iscte Centre for International Studies (CEI-Iscte) had a visible presence, with several members of the research team coordinating panels and presenting papers.
During the event, researcher Ana Lúcia Sá – a member of the board of the European Network for African Studies (AEGIS) – and Pedro Seabra – deputy director of the CEI – officially announced that the next edition of ECAS will be held in Lisbon, at Iscte, between 30 June and 3 July 2027.
Also taking part in the congress were researchers Clara Carvalho, Luís Bernardino, Yonatan Gez, Carla Bertin, Janine Häbel, Ana Luísa Silva, Berenike Eichhorn, Francis Ngure and Keren Kuenberg, reflecting the diversity of the research carried out at the centre.
Organised biennially by AEGIS (Africa-Europe Group for Interdisciplinary Studies), ECAS is one of the most important international conferences in the field of African studies, promoting academic exchange and critical reflection on multiple African contexts.
