CEI-Iscte anounces the Call for Papers for the international conference ‘Europe as a Global Actor’, which will take place on 15 and 16 May 2025, is now available.
This year’s conference will focus on the current and future role of the European Union in the world, with particular attention to its relations with Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. Internal challenges such as populism and East-West and North-South divisions will be addressed, as well as external challenges such as the growing assertiveness of Russia, China and Turkey. The event will feature thematic panels, round tables with keynote speakers and plenary sessions, providing a unique opportunity for debate and knowledge exchange.

We encourage submissions that explore the conference theme, focusing on (but not limited to) the following topics:

  • The EU’s energy (in)security and its challenges towards a just energy transition
  • Strengthening the EU’s defence resilience and readiness
  • The EU as a global maritime security provider
  • The EU’s sustainable, prosperity and competitiveness
  • The EU’s role in crises, development, Human Rights promotion, and gender equality
  • The EU’s role in the fight against climate change and environmental degradation
  • The EU’s role in protecting democracy
  • Populism, disinformation, and media literacy
  • The EU’s security: nuclear threats, hybrid and cyber-attacks and critical infrastructure
  • Changing dynamics of the transatlantic relations and the US-European alliance
  • The EU’s enlargement in a new geopolitical order
  • The EU’s border security challenges and inclusion policies
  • The EU’s foreign policy and economic stability nexus
