On 23rd of April, at 11:30 am, we will host another AfDevLives creative research methodologies session, dedicated to the photovoice research method. It will be facilitated by Nura Ali, a doctoral student at the Development Planning Unit at University College London, and Nosazemen Agbontaen, a filmmaker, photographer, writer and producer.

In their lecture “Photography as Method”, Nura and Nosa will share their work using participatory photography in an effort to re-frame the narrative of a contested low-income neighbourhood in Lagos, Nigeria. Makoko (the neighbourhood) is subject to a myriad of media articles and the ways in which it is portrayed are often not in line with residents’ visions. To explore identities that are simultaneously over- and undernarrated, Nura organised a photovoice and photo elicitation workshop, and a 2-day photowalk. The results were shown at the Yaba College of Technology in Lagos, and public discussions with academics, policy makers and media representatives were held.

Please follow AfDevLives’ website and Facebook page to see more details. The lecture can be accessed through this link – https://videoconf-colibri.zoom.us/j/96307692324?pwd=SnZuR0Jod1R0eVlvU3pXQWFrb0d3Zz09 or in presence at Iscte – room B324 (Building 4).
