Biographical Information

Thomas joined ISCTE-IUL in January 2019. Since the award of his PhD in 2009, funded by the UK Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), Thomas has held research and teaching positions in universities in Austria, Germany, Pakistan and the UK. He has been Principal Investigator on an ESRC-funded post-doctoral fellowship and consultant for the Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa (OSISA). Since 2015, he has been Honorary Assistant Professor at the Centre for International Education Research (CIER), University of Nottingham (UK). As a researcher, he approaches the interdisciplinary field of Global Development through theories and methodologies of Political Sociology, Human Geography and International Relations, with a particular interest in the political economy and global governance of development and education, the spatialities of uneven geographical development, and global South-South cooperation. His empirical fieldwork has more recently extended from Latin America-Caribbean to case study research in Pakistan and, currently, Portugal.
